Accomplishment of the project’s ambitious objectives is realized in the work plan through 6 technical-work packages (WP2-WP7) under the supervision of WP1 which is dedicated to Project Management. More specifically TWILIGHT’s workpackages are:
WP1 is responsible for the coordination and the overall management for the project and for the establishment of communication links between the partners and the EU. It steers all technical activities within WP2-WP6 by monitoring the progress of the scientific outcomes and the accomplishment of the project milestones and related deliverables and performs risk analysis activating contingency plans when needed. Finally, it guides WP7 via the innovation management activities.
WP2 provides a horizontal framework linking all the subsequent technical WPs. WP2 defines the network scenarios and derives the specifications for all project components, modules and systems and develops the necessary DSP algorithms for PAM4 and FEC. In addition, WP2 defines the integration methodology for the assembly of the system on-chip InP membrane and the InP-HBT electronics layer and the overall assembly of the system-in-package transceiver and optical space switch demonstrators.
WP3 addresses the development of active (EMLs, PDs, PISOAs) and passive photonic building blocks (polarization insensitive WDM mux/demux) and system-on-chip motherboards on the InP membrane platform for the intra-DC, the inter-DC and the optical space switch modules and demonstrators.
WP4 focuses on the development of the InP-HBT electronics components and ICs of both the transmitters and the receivers.
WP5 undertakes the photonics and electronics wafer-scale co-integration, RF and thermal simulation studies and the system assembly of the project demonstrators.
WP6 is dedicated to system testing and performance validation of the project transmitters, receivers and optical space switch modules and demonstrators under laboratory and realistic conditions.
WP7 is industry-led and focuses on the dissemination and exploitation activities, roadmapping and business opportunities, tackling also IPR and standardization aspects.
